Description:

The Surgical Assistant is responsible for assisting the physicians of the Open Heart in clinical and research duties. Provides direct patient care to all adult cardiac surgical patients. Ongoing communication with physicians and other Open Heart team members. Assists with the maintenance of surgical equipment and inventory. Participates in performance improvement activities. Assesses operating room for equipment functioning and readiness, obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the surgical operating team are met. Positions and assists during procedure.

Qualifications:

Previous experience in an Open Heart Surgery program.
Documentation of satisfactory accomplishment in endoscopic vein harvest. Minimum 100 documented cases preferred.
Documentation of satisfactory accomplishment in radial artery harvest. Minimum 50 documented cases preferred.
References from 3 physicians substantiating acceptable performance in first assisting in all open heart procedures requested.
All applicants will have a formal interview and must be approved by the program director before offer of employment is made.
Ability to perform effectively in fast-paced environment.
Ability to work harmoniously with others.
Basic computer skills.

Holds current License as a House Physician in the State of Florida.
Holds current Surgical Assistant Certification.
Holds a current BLS certification.
